I’ve written a guest post for the folks over at the Window Seat blog on Travelocity which might interest any readers planning a trip to Paris in the near future.

Enjoy!

  1. But…but…you didn’t mention the boat rides ! That was the coolest thing, I seem to remember, going through tunnels and locks.
Or don’t they do the canal rides any more ? It’s been a while since I lived in Paris so I’m probably hopelessly behind the times.

  2. I do actually – the bit about pleasure boats, although it’s less clear than it was as the link to Canauxrama boats has been stripped out of the text.

  3. Aww..I wish I found out about this BEFORE my trip to Paris last year. Maybe next time…

  6. Will be Paris the week after next! Dreading the 24 hour flight but looking forward to the sun (and now the boat!)

  7. The pizza place sounds interesting — I will have to visit Paris some time (I lived there in 1972). A lovely article.

  9. Thanks for that view of a hidden Paris.
If only I had known about this 10 years ago when I took my wife to Paris for Valentine’s weekend and then two more visits in the summer time.

  11. How fun, new places for me to check out! (I’m trying to venture out a bit more often beyond my beloved marais…) Perhaps your pizza recommendation might find its way into my own “guide to Paris”!

In case you come down my way, my current top tip for restaurants is Derrière (funky decor, lovely courtyard, yummy food)

  12. Lovely description, Petite! I’ll be spending Fall semester in Paris–this seems like a charming place to visit.

And the balloons- clever! If you have any other tidbits or advice about Paris, please keep sharing.

  13. I visited Paris last weekend. I shrieked when I saw a blond, pregnant British woman with a little girl and wanted to yell: “Look!! It’s Petite Anglaise!!” But as I was doing the math in my head very quickly, I discovered the girl was too little and the tummy too big. So I ended up screaming: “Look!! It’s P…ompidou!” ;)
Had a wonderful time though; wish I had read this post earlier…

  15. just cut my finger very, very deeply, and thought of you when I went to the ER, thinking I needed stitches. But the line was too long, so I will take my chances and let it heal by itself.
