I dunno... maybe it's just my asian family doesn't gain weight, but don't think so. I'm not a super healthy eater...chowing down on choucroute, rillettes, butter everywhere, religieuses, gorgonzola, not to mention my liver-depressing alcohol consommation...I kept a food blog for awhile and I had to stop because I started disgusting myself. But since moving to France two years ago, I've gained maybe .5kg, which is impressive considering how much more I eat over here...and I'm not sure if I'm any more active than I was in North America. What I'm sure about is that I eat a lot less industrial type foods (like bottled mayo, or canned ravioli...YUM), and more market foods.

And thanks for the photo comment...that's like the 40th take in the series. In the immortal words of Donna Summer, "she works hard for the money."

A few years ago, I wanted to try mushy peas becuase I'd read about them so often. Food was dumped on my plate and I was about to ask where the mushy peas were when I realised that the radioactive green lump nestling next to the fish was it. As for the taste... *shudder*

You know there's a little-publicised law of nutrition that says if you eat savoury and sweet things at the same time, they cancel each other out? (I think I read that somewhere...)

sounds yummy yummy yummy... however, am not impressed with calorie intake. That's giving you fatty calves? You need to do more shopping!

Anyways, about those french girls who don't gain weight... in my tight circle of french girlfriends, 4 out of the 5 have really great appetites. The one who doesn't, well she's a beanpole and she watches what she eats. Girl #1 is insane eater with hole in big toe. She's a real French Paradox with a Bardot like body. Girl#2 rides a bike all the time so appetite is healthy. The other two girls are rounded on the hips, but that doesn't stop them from flaunting their Margielas and chowing down on giant chunks of gorgonzola or gobbling kebabs. Me, I'm asian. I don't gain weight.

But in general, the french girls don't have anything more on other girls. There's just less industrial food here.
