I’m afraid I haven’t got around to posting today, so instead I leave you to guess which of the “people” depicted on this delightful drawing by Tadpole (aged 2 yrs and 3 months) is supposed to be yours truly.

  11. It has to be the green circle top right … the one with no facial features at all! In my experience mummies should never get their hopes up when presented with pictures like that! We all know which one we’d choose to be (tall, lithe, big smile, bag-less eyes,the normal number of limbs, hair of some discription etc) and which one we are praying is the guinea pig … I’m always the guinea pig!

  12. That’s a seriously nice sketch. I once paid 50 francs for a speedy portrait outside the Pompidou Centre which was nowhere near as good as that.

  14. I’m impressed. My 3 yrs and 3 months old daughter has only just started to draw “people”. They don’t have bodies yet, just incredibly long limbs coming straight out of the neck.

    You’re the red one in the middle, of course. (could tell because of the glasses).

  15. She’s really 2 years and 3 months? My 2 year, seven month daughter hasn’t even started to draw people/objects yet. It’s scribbles and spirals and circles. I’m flabbergasted! And I vote for the red one, too, because of the panini post.

  16. Very healthy drawing for two, and not one attempt to make them anatomically correct. My mother always had to make little construction paper pants for my portraits of my dad. Apparently I KNEW where I came from.

  20. The nervous looking one in the middle with the big red eyes, of course. And this drawing *is* very advanced. In Germany when a child is about 4 they check if he/she has gone beyond the “Kopffüßler” stage - drawing just a big head with the arms and legs sticking out of it to depict a human being. Tadpole’s way beyond that already.

  22. My son is 2 years and 11 months and, like most children of his age, still scribbles or squiggles or whatever it is in English. Il gribouille, en somme. It’s absolutely amazing that your little one draws people at her age. No kidding, it’s just incredible. You must be proud.

  33. Well, as many people guessed correctly, I am supposed to be the one with the (very stylish Gucci) glasses depicted in red. I appear to be rolling my eyes in exasperation, which is not uncommon.

    To my left is a rather oversized “Tico L’Ecureuil”, which is the Dora the Explorer inspired name of Tadpole’s favourite rag doll, who does indeed have a triangular face and pigtails.

    And yes, I am rather proud of her. A budding Webb, no doubt.

    Do you have the same tradition of filling your refrigerator front with the kid’s pictures? Then when it’s solidly covered they complain about you hiding the old ones - Don’t you like them anymore?

  40. She’s very talented! When I was 2, all I could draw were mice (a slumped ellipse with something sticking out) and Mom’s hands - with no less than 10 fingers on each. I’m guessing you’re the red one in the middle, with what looks like a head instead of a stomach (or is that a whole different person?)… the glasses are lovely, though :)

  41. So, who are the other people? Therapists often have children draw their family, and then analyze the drawing. Since you were drawn in the middle, some would say it is evident that you are the center of her life.

    We’ll have to ask what they would say about the big red eyes! LOL Great drawing for her age!You should think about framing it or save it in her baby scrapbook.

  43. Whew - I’m so glad to read all of the above comments. My own Tadpole is aged exactly 2 years 3 months, and I was beginning to think of him as slightly retarded, seeing that PA’s Tadpole appears to speak in complete sentences AND draws people.

    The best mine can do is scratch a pen across the wall, and he has about 5 words in English and only 2 in French for the moment (”merci” and “au secours!”)….
