  1. Those American hats sure are scary. And white? Everyone knows white American hats get dirty fast. And sick. Pink ones are better.

Such a cute little sponsor you’ve got there!

  2. Erm…I know the nursery rhyme is about buying a white “american” hat (whatever that is) that will scare everyone…..so let me make a guess, are you referring to the wierd hats on the home page of “Hello Kitty”? Yikes, those hats are enough to give kids nightmares!

Or am I just making it too complicated, and I should just listen to Tadpole charming me with her sweet voice and wonderful command of French?

Oh, I’ve just overworked by brain, I think I’ll have a drink.

Anyway, enjoy your stay in Blighty.

  3. My favourite two bloggers meeting? Can this be possible?!!! A tantilising promise to end an awful week!!! Yay!!!

  4. Didn’t understand all that but if it was recorded after the sickness than I’d say Tadpole is back on form. Think she said something about scaring the cat and the hospital being closed?
As for going to a pub in Norfolk - are you meeting JonnyB by any chance? Long odds on that, as I know from experience there are hundreds of pubs in Norfolk - enough said.
    Enjoy yourselves.

  6. Have fun in Norfolk!

  7. Maybe Tadpole can give some singing lessons to Short Tony?

  8. Very nice message. I often have a loud message from our sponsors, but not of the same ilk as that one.

  9. Lovely. Have a good weekend.

  10. Have been drawn into your blog in the last week or so and you end up in Norfolk where I (mis)spent many a summer. May I ask which village pub? Have so enjoyed reading your experiences (likewise in Paris for 10 yrs with bilingual daughter and son). Well done for keeping your SOH throughout. Lisa

  12. We are travelling cross country today to visit my Aunt in Oxfordshire that I have not seen for a couple of years.

She is cooking dinner, so I’m guessing she will have gone completely over the top - and made a full cooked dinner (that she can’t really afford to do).

  13. Ooooh that’s where I’m from! Have fun!

  14. the message is very witty…so funny to take some time to see the world through a child eyes!

  15. Have fun at the pub! I’m jealous…

I can sympthise with your trip. I hadn’t left the US by plane since a bit before 9/11…and the things required to get back into this country are idiotic.

I almost missed the final leg of my flight home from Shanhai because of being spirited into some side room and grilled as to WHY I was there, WHAT I brought back, taking my shoes off etc.

I guess chubby caucasians with Southern accents are the current threat to America’s national security. :(

  16. next stop x factor…I’m joking of course, sure you would never do that to her, very sweet.

  17. Ah, the flying white American hat song… New one on me, but a very amusing discovery all the same.

  21. Better be wearing that bonnet americain pour faire peur a tous les gens at a jaunty angle on the day of your hearing.. best of luck!

  22. If only all sponsor-led messages were so much fun to listen to.
    ….
I wish the weather was a bit more cheerful for you. Sadly, it seems a bit drab at the moment. Evidently you’ve picked one of England’s 330 days per year of overcast weather. What are the chances of that? ;)

  23. As an ex-employee of “Lord” J. (you will know to whom I am referring!), you are the delight of my heart! Having come through a prud’hommes unscathed and 25,000 euros better off (although my lawyer grabbed 30 percent), my advice to you is “Enjoy it!” See it as “life is but a stage …” etc. If you are taken to Appeal, do not despair! My case took four years but the best part was at the Appeal Court where a judge took to me as a reviled and battered over fifty “thrown to the dogs” by a cruel employer.

It’s not the money that counts, it’s that Truth must -and will - triumph!

I wish you every success as you have done what every “petite anglaise” since Jane Birkin has dreamed of achieving - being loved by the French!

  24. I too got that the hospital is closed. Perhaps Tadpole has a future career in government?

    Hywel Mallett | 1:19 am

  25. Did you, by any chance, have some pork-pie whilst in Norfolk?
