The pic-nique was soooo much fun. My favourite moment being when Hugo unpacked his rucksack to reveal Pimms, apple, lemon, mint, strawberries, cucumber and a knife and chopping board. There was I, with my enormous cooler, champagne on ice, more modest Pimms effort (cucumber, mint, orange), thinking I could never be upstaged…

Reports say that up to sixty people showed up - whoever had the guestbook thing, please confirm, I’d love to know - and a good time was had by all.

We’ll definitely be doing this again, so if you couldn’t make it, get your act together next time. That’s an order.

update: video footage here. Parental advisory - includes scenes of ear nibbling (ahem) and other debauchery.

update#2: Financial Times (?!) write up here. Curiouser and curiouser.

  4. Yes ma’am. I hope we get a bit more notice next time. It does look like you had a wonderful time, thanks for getting the photos up so fast! So many pretty boys, you can’t find one in all of that?

  5. Hi Catherine,

the picnic was excellent fun - so much fun, that I am hoping to do a piece on it for a newspaper (broadsheet, highly respected!) that I write for. Would love to have quick chat so that I can include some quotes from you (if that’s ok) and wondered if you had phone number/email that I can contact you on? Perhaps you could email me at the email address attached to this comment.

    mille merci,

Be there or be an uninspiring equilateral-sided cuboid, eh?

I for one will have to remain regularly-shaped and equal-angled. Gay Paris is a few-thousand miles too far me to travel for a picnic.

Would it perhaps be acceptable for me to down a fermented apple juice or two in salute, instead? :)

  18. Oh, it looks like it was a wonderful gathering! I’m not a blogger, but I find that whole community of thoughtful, poetic, creative people such a romantic idea; thank you very much for sharing the pictures. One question: was Andre (abeautifulrevoluiton) there? I didn’t recognize him in any of the photos…

    eric | 7:32 am

  19. Oh my god, I’ve spied a veritable God in those photos….

    Look like fun!

  21. My Pimms was my own downfall. In conjunction with Rhino’s chocolate tart, I was out of action for several hours afterwards.

  24. So it was a resounding success by all accounts. Will try to make it to the next one. My trip to Paris (Sunday) was good but I bet the picnic was much more fun. But am I too old for ear nibbling etc I wonder. . .?

    sablonneuse | 1:38 pm

  25. Ha!! It must have been the Pimms - my chocolate tart is famed throughout the Western World for its medicinal properties. It’s the St. John’s Wort of pâtisserie. It was a great afternoon and so nice to meet so many cool people.

  26. Oooh your picnic looked fun!

  29. Oooh it was a wonderful time, petite, and is a wonderful way to spend an afternoon :) Thanks for organising it! I do hope there’ll be another one soon!

  30. I’m kicking myself that I missed it, particularly when I see what a laugh you had. Instead I was trawling through clothes shops with not much of a result apart from a couple of measly t-shirts. You look like fun people. (which I’m sure you are ; ) )

    Donta | 10:48 pm

  31. hi catherine
do you know this very popular french blog “Incredible and insignificant life of Brad-Pitt Deuchfalh” ?

    Le Meg | 12:30 am

  33. Although I’m married to a gorgeous Frog myself, the photo of the dark-haired man looking off into the distance is divine…

  34. I wanted to take a moment to thank Petite, Le Meg, FWAB and Rhino as well for organizing the pique-nique. Had a great time, although I ended up having to leave a bit earlier than planned… And I didn’t even get to meet everyone! I feel like I didn’t mingle as much as I should have, but it was good fun nevertheless. Petite is as lovely in person as on-line (bien sûr!), Meg is adorably hilarious, FWAB is fabulously adorable (obvs) — and Rhino, how in the world did I not meet you?! I don’t know what happened… I do apologize for the oversight. I didn’t even make it over for the Pimm’s, and I’m still not sure why that may be. I managed to down enough red wine to make me tipsy, though — pompette is my middle name! (but hopefully not embarrassingly so)

Merci once more! If I’m not too lazy this week, I will do my best to blog about it as well.

    Alice | 12:25 pm

  35. Looks fun. Wish I’d been in France!

    Sally Lomax | 12:36 pm

    Julie | 2:59 pm

Dearie me, can’t even pop out for a litre of milk these days without getting papped…
